Computers & Internet

Computers in the library

Desktop computers with internet and productivity software are available in the Adult Services and Youth Services departments. Computers are available to patrons as a privilege, not as an automatic right or as an obligation of the library. Internet use privileges may be modified and or suspended in their entirety, at the discretion of the library.

Adult Services

  • 11 computers available with internet, Microsoft Office applications and access to many library databases.
  • Must be 16 and older with a valid Chicago Ridge library card to access internet at no charge. If signed in with a library card, time is automatically extended hour by hour if there is no one waiting for a computer.
  • Additional 6 laptop computers available for use in the library (see Library of Things for more information).
  • Patrons without a Chicago Ridge library card can request a free 60 minute internet pass. After the first free hour, time can be extended for $1 per hour. It is up to the patron to request and pay for an extension before their time expires, or the computer will automatically log them off.
  • All public computers shut down 10 minutes prior to closing time and work will be lost if not saved on a flash drive or emailed before shutdown. It is the responsibility of patrons to pay attention to time left.

Youth Services

  • 8 computers available featuring filtered internet access, Microsoft Office applications and access to many library databases are available.
  • 2 computers available loaded with educational children’s games with no internet access.
  • Youth can request a free 60 minute internet pass at the Youth Services Desk.
  • Youth are allowed one 60 minute internet session a day.

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi access is available for patrons with laptops and other internet enabled devices. To connect to our network, connect to CRPL Public WiFi. Our sign-in page should open on its own, but if it doesn't, open your browser and attempt to access any site. You will be redirected to a page with our terms of Wi-Fi use. Press the green button at the bottom of the page to agree to the terms and start using our Wi-Fi.
