Patron code of conduct
As part of the Library's commitment to provide a welcoming and safe environment for all, Library Staff will enforce the following guidelines.
Guidelines
The following guidelines are not exhaustive. Any behavior or activity that is disruptive, unsafe or otherwise interferes with patron, staff, and others’ use of the Library is prohibited.
Respect Other Patrons' Use of the Library and Library Staff
- Keep conversations at an acceptable level
- Set cell phone ringers to silent and keep cell phone conversations short
- Use headphones for all audio
- Do not verbally or physically harass other patrons or staff
Refrain from fighting, threatening the safety of others, and/or provoking violence
Do not engage unwilling persons in discussions
Do not leave personal belongings unattended
Heavily-fragranced patrons or those with offensive body odor may be asked to leave
- Only service animals and program animals are allowed in the Library
- Refrain from sales or solicitation unless library approved
- Do not monopolize staff time or prevent other patrons from receiving staff assistance
- Comply with staff requests
- Parents, guardians, and caregivers are responsible for the safety of those who require care while visiting the library
Respect Library Materials, Building, and Grounds
- Spaces, furnishings, materials and equipment should be used for their intended function
- Covered drinks and small snacks may be consumed except in the Youth Services department and at the public computers
- Clean up after yourself and do not leave debris in the library building or on its grounds
Respect the Law on Library Property By
- Not using tobacco products on library premises: including smokeless tobacco, herbal products and e-cigarettes
- Not selling or using alcohol, drugs or controlled substances
- Not possessing a weapon
- Not engaging in sexual activity, misconduct or harassment
- Not engaging in theft, vandalism or mutilation of library property or other patrons' property
Any conduct that violates these guidelines may result in cost recovery charges, exclusion from library property and from the use of library services, and prosecution. All library staff are authorized to ask patrons who violate this policy to leave the library for the remainder of the day.
