Teachers

Discover the many ways the Chicago Ridge Public Library supports teachers. From classroom visits to curated resources, we’re here to help. Call, email, or stop by—it's always “Teacher Time” at the Library!

School Visits

Teachers, local schools, and daycare centers are encouraged to contact the library to schedule a class visit. Visits can be tailored  to your specific needs and may include orientations, storytimes, activity centers, craft projects, and time for students to check out books.

Teacher Library Cards

Chicago Ridge Library teacher library cards are available to teachers who teach in School District 127 ½, and early childhood education day care centers in Chicago Ridge, and have a personal library card at their home library per our agreement with SWAN.

  • Teacher cards are valid for one school year and expire on August 15 each year. A new application is required every school year.
  • The teacher card is not for personal use; materials should remain in the classroom and not be sent home with students.
  • Teacher cards allow up to 200 items checked out and 50 items on hold.
  • Materials checked out with a teacher card are loaned for three (3) weeks and may be renewed.
  • Teacher cards also provide access to library databases and downloadable e-resources.

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a reading competition for local students in grades 3 through 8, where teams compete by answering questions about award-winning books. Throughout the school year, students read 20 age-appropriate titles in preparation. In May, teams come together at the library for a friendly competition. It’s a fun and engaging way to promote reading, teamwork, and a lifelong love of books.
