Need service hours? Looking for something fun to do this summer? Volunteer here! Please fill out the Volunteen form and return it to the Youth Services desk. Volunteen hours for the summer will start on Monday, June 10, with each Volunteen expected to volunteer 2-4 hours a week. There will be special events throughout the summer where Volunteens can work additional hours.
The Chicago Ridge Public Library was awarded a Year Five Project Next Generation Grant. Our grant, titled “Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow,” will focus on students ages 10–18. Library mentors will run programs on digital literacy by introducing clubs about gaming, sewing, coding, robotics and videography to our youth.
New technologies introduced to our library this year will include: a Nintendo Switch, Nintendo LABO, Nintendo robots, Cricut Maker, Lily Pad Arduinos, conductive thread, LED lights, Kano computers, and Meccanoid robots. Each component will last 6 weeks.
Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
If you would like to be a mentor to our youth, please ask for more information at the Youth Services desk. Our previous grants have earned exemplary status, meaning that our library is serving as a model for other libraries in the state of Illinois.
